Phish will play a four-night stand at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in December, marking the band’s fourth consecutive New Year’s run at the legendary venue. The series of concerts will begin on Saturday, December 28, and conclude on New Year’s Eve. Phish has played 27 dates at Madison Square Garden since December 1994.
Last year, Phish transformed Madison Square Garden into a huge garden party– a tip of the hat to Rick Nelson’s hit song “Garden Party,” which concerned his infamous 1971 appearance at the venue. After ringing in 2013 with “Auld Lang Syne,” Phish welcomed dozens of performers to the stage, creating what Glide Magazine called “a spectacle that needs to be seen to be believed.” “It’s not the ball drop, but for tens of thousands of people, Phish’s annual run of shows at Madison Square Garden…is the more significant year-end event in Manhattan,” The New York Times’ Jon Pareles observed in 2011.
