After making the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons, the Rangers are building towards taking the next step with a strong core of homegrown players that will lead the team for years to come. That core will be guided by Alain Vigneault, who joined the organization in June 2013 as the 35th head coach in franchise history. Vigneault brings an offensive, up-tempo style of hockey, featuring a talented mix of forwards and defensemen.

Both new and old are expected to blend seamlessly under a new coach, allowing homegrown talents Ryan Callahan, Derek Stepan, and Carl Hagelin to contribute offensively alongside veterans Rick Nash and Brad Richards. Defense will be anchored by young veterans Dan Girardi and Marc Staal, as well as the continued development of rising stars, Ryan McDonagh and Michael Del Zotto. Stability in net will be provided by seven-time team MVP, Henrik Lundqvist, and veteran backup, Martin Biron.

The future also promises to be very bright on Broadway. Blue-chippers Chris Kreider, J.T. Miller, Dylan McIlrath, and Jesper Fast draw closer to becoming regular members of the team. Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather has bolstered the franchise’s system by signing undrafted free agents from both the college and European ranks, such as Slovakian offensive star Marek Hrivik. In addition, the Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, has been instrumental in preparing young players for the next level, and that franchise’s success has been confirmed by 14 trips to the AHL playoffs in the last 16 seasons.
